Atlantis Positive Behavior Services
Discovering the hidden potential
Our Process
ABA uses Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) as means of decision-making to combine the best available evidence with client needs, circumstances, and clinical expertise. This practice allows Atlantis Positive Behavior Services to provide services uniquely matched to each individual. Through EBP, Atlantis Positive Behavior Services can clearly identify the most appropriate interventions. We also include elements of each individual, such as values, culture, and the suitability of therapy elements.
1. Intake
The Client Intake Questionnaire is completed by you, the caregiver. An APBS employee will reach out to you and gather any additional information needed to verify eligibility
2. Assessment
A 2-3 hour assessment interview is scheduled with you and your child at your home. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst will meet with you to gather information that will assist in prescribing the most effective treatment possible and obtain information required by the insurance companies.
3. Service Request Authorization
Our team will complete the necessary documentation and submit it to your insurance carrier with a recommendation for the amount and intensity of service for your child.
4. Approval
Your insurance carrier will review the request for authorization and let us know the determination typically within 10-14 business days.
5. Initiation of service
You will be contacted to arrange your initial session appointment where you will meet your behavior technician and the supervising BCBA.
6. Initial month of service
During the first month of services, your behavior technician will build rapport and instructional control through the pairing process. Meanwhile, the BCBA will be collecting information and data to ensure initial treatment goals match the needs of your child. Caregiver training will also begin in this first month.
Typical Client
Services in applied behavior analysis are typically provided to clients who are under the age of 21 and have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, with or without additional diagnosis, or a similar diagnosis. Clients typically have deficits in one or more of: communication, social skills, and/or daily living skills and challenging behaviors.
Atlantis PBS Session
The ultimate goal of applied behavior analysis is to build the client’s repertoire to a level of independence that is specific to their individual abilities. Services in applied behavior analysis typically include a session duration of between 2 and 4 hours for 3 to 5 days each week. It it is critical to have sessions consistently throughout the week for a length of time that allows goals to be worked on with the client without rushing through them.
During each session, the behavior technician continues to maintain a relationship with your child through the process of pairing. Pairing often looks something like playing, however it is a critical part of sessions that increases the likelihood of learning success. Sessions will also include caregiver training on ABA interventions and concepts.
The behavior technician will work on a series of goals created by the BCBA that are specific to the client’s deficits and needs. Data is collected during every session to record client responses to interventions. Data is then analyzed by the BCBA to determine which interventions are successful and determine any changes to the goals that may increase the client ’s success.
Ideally, services will end when all goals are achieved, and caregivers will take over entirely. This is why caregiver training is such an essential part of sessions - so that caregivers can independently intervene with, teach, and maintain client skills.
